JUNE UPDATE . . . The Aside: Conversation with Anne Louise Bannon & all about book award contests
The latest episode of The Aside: Conversations with Authors Just Off the Page along with two articles on why you should enter book award contests and what to do when you win!
Happy Friday Morning! I hope you’re all doing well! ~
I’m sending you a digest-style email this morning that includes an incredibly fun interview with author Anne Louise Bannon as well as two articles, Are Writing Contests Worth the Fees and Six Steps to Promote Your Book Award Win. These two are updated reposts of previous blogs I wrote a while back. I’m still finding that there are people in the publishing industry giving advice to authors about not entering contests with fees, and I feel that is a very rigid view which does a disservice to authors—particularly those who are indie published. (Sure, some contests are not reputable … but many are!!)
In other news, my Friday mornings have gotten busy with a new gig . . . every Friday at 11 am central (unless I’m away from my desk on some adventure), I am part of the Blackbird Writer Substack TV Live show (along with my lovely co-hosts Tracey S. Phillips and T.K. Sheffield and the occasional guest host). This is a 30-minute discussion including updates on this fabulous group of mystery, thriller, suspense authors. We always have one writerly or publishing industry topic along with sharing our favorite things of the week! Please join us by following the Blackbird Writers on Substack.
That’s it for now . . . I’m working on some new projects and will share them with you soon! - Valerie
