After talking about some of our recent favorite books, we unpack info drawn from the DOJ vs Penguin Random House trial and how that info has been used to draw some shockingly inaccurate conclusions.
I enjoyed this chat about books, buyers, and what's happening in the world of books. Val always has a unique, lively perspective about books, marketing, and who's buying in the world of books.
Thank you, Dixie!! That's so, so nice of you! I will reach out for sure as my plans progress. For now, let me know how you feel about reading the ARCs of either book-- not sure if you like middle grade or not. ;)
I have a few left that haven't replied, but I'm not holding my breath on those. I've subbed to just a handful of publishers that I like that don't require agents, but I'm planning on indie publishing that book--which was always an option, even when I started the agent search. I'm not willing to go with a small press as they often don't do much marketing and the author ends up doing the marketing. Instead, I can indie pub--do my own marketing--and retain all of my earnings, which works out way better financially than publishing with a small press with no advance. I'm planning on a fall launch for two books -- my YA mystery suspense and a Middle Grade story.

It was a good discussion -- I love co-hosting this with you! We have so much fun, even when we're discussing a court case. ha ha
Thank you both for sharing this.
BTW. I bought two books yesterday.
I taught middle grade and high school so I am fine to read. I read for several authors. Just let me know your timeline when you get there.
Thank you thank you thank you!!
Let me know what I can do to support you.

Very interesting. How is the search for an agent going, Valerie?
